October 2, 2008, marks the beginning of yet another installment of the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program DV-2010 commonly known as Green Card Lottery. People from around the world get a chance to win an immigrant visa that will allow them to live and work in the United States. Russia is included in the list of the eligible country for the first time in a few years.
The fact that Russia has been removed from the list of ineligible countries earned a separate line in the new DV-2010 instructions: "For DV-2010, Russia has returned to the list of eligible countries." Up until this year, those born in Russia could not participate in Green Card Lottery, while the natives of all the other former Soviet Union republics could do so. Now the Russian can too win a chance to live and work legally in the USA.
You will find the instructions for Green Card lottery in both English and Russian on this site.
The applications are no longer accepted as of December 1, 2008. Next Green Card Lottery will take place in October 2009.
