Yuriy Bobryshev began his official duties as the mayor of the City of Veliky Novgorod, Russia on March 11.
Veliky Novgorod is the foremost historic city of North-Western Russia, the administrative center of Novgorod Oblast. It is situated on the M10 federal highway connecting Moscow and St. Petersburg. Its population in the 2002 census was 216,856.
Yuriy Bobryshev was elected mayor of the city during the election that took place concurrently with the Russian Presidential elections and the Novgorod Duma elections. 75.5% of all voters or 72,290 persons cast their vote for Yuriy Bobryshev. Other 4 candidates got less than ten percent of the vote.
Yuriy Bobryshev was born May 3, 1951 in the village of Bobryshevo, Kursk Oblast. Received his undergraduate degree in Russia in 1973 and MBA from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School in 1991.
