Information about studying Russian at the University of North Carolina - Charlotte. Provided by Yulia Baldwin, Russian language instructor at UNCC. She also provides an answer to the question: Why study Russian?
In 2006 the American Government launched the National Security Language Initiative (NSLI). The NSLI is a plan to further strengthen national security and prosperity in the 21st century through developing ‘exotic’ foreign language skills.
The goal of the NSLI is to dramatically increase the number of people learning Arabic, Chinese and Russian as well as the number of advanced-level speakers of these critical needs foreign languages.
If you are interested in obtaining or mastering your proficiencies in a soon-to-be-in-high-demand Russian language, the Russian Department at UNCC would be the place for you to check.
