Elementary Russian – RUSS 1201, RUSS 1202
An introduction to Russian as a spoken and written language, Fundamentals of the Russian language, including speaking, listening comprehension, reading, and writing. With Department permission, native and fluent speakers of the language can obtain credit by exam.
Intermediate Russian – RUSS 2201, RUSS 2202
This sequence of courses begins with a systematic review of Russian grammar, with emphasis on building vocabulary, conversational and writing skills. With Department permission, native and fluent speakers of the language can obtain credit by exam.
Advanced Russian Grammar, Conversation, and Composition – RUSS 3201, 3202
Intensive review of Russian grammar, plus mastery of new grammatical structures, while performing written and oral task-oriented activities. Acquisition of new vocabulary in a cultural context. With Department permission, native and fluent speakers of the language can obtain credit by exam.
Masterpieces of Russian Literature in Translation – RUSS 3050
A study of the best of Russian prose and poetry including the works by Pushkin, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Bulgakov and others. Through works such as Anna Karenina, Crime and Punishment and The Master and Margarita, these writers expanded the boundaries of the genres in which they worked, and exposed the acute social problems of their time. Conducted in English.
Russian Culture and Civilization – RUSS 3203
The course takes you through the centuries of Russian history, and deals with the art, music, customs, traditions and popular culture of Russia. Conducted in English.
Study Abroad – RUSS 3800
Participation in individually arranged study programs in Russian Universities – Moscow, St. Petersburg, etc. Department permission needed. May be repeated for credit.
Russian Translation - FORL 4050
English into Russian. The course is a part of the Three Semester Translation Program which leads to a Certificate in Translation. |
