It should be known that strictly speaking they are not Russian stores, at least not all of them. In some cases they are owned by immigrants from Europe that came to North Carolina that sell groceries from Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Romania, Germany, and other countries.
In particular, one such owner told this site's admin that she was wondering as to why her store was called Russian on this site, she being from Romania.
Those stores are called Russian stores in North Carolina simply because of this site's visitors, who visit a site called Russian North Carolina and look for Russian food. There are no other reasons, be it political, linguistic and otherwise.
