Raleigh, the capitol of North Carolina, will be the first city in the United States to use the LED (light-emitting diode) technology to light its streets.
Raleigh officials made a decision to implement LED technology for use in street lights and municipal buildings. In the next year and half all street lights, building, parking and garage light fixtures will be replaced with light-emitting diode fixtures.
Progress Energy, the company that will doing the work of installing LED city lighting, projects the savings on lights will amount to 40%. What's more, a better quality of light is expected with the switch to the light-emitting technology. Several different LED configurations will be implemented in various types of light fixtures.
Raleigh officials expect other U.S. cities to follow their example.

Hi,
Nice article!
I have been watching what's going on with the LED street lights for months now, and very happy to see cities starting to test them out. From my journeys around the net and reading specifications on the lights Green LED Lighting seem to have the best solution for street lighting. LED lights that use both the grid and solar, that makes them depending on weather about 95% efficient.
Worth taking a look at.
John
