According to a report published today by Trust for America's Health (TFAH) entitled F as in Fat: How Obesity Policies Are Failing in America, 2006, the South was found to be gaining the most weight. North Carolina finds itself in the 17th place in term of obesity rates.
Nine Southern states are in the top ten most obese locations. 1: Mississippi; 2: Alabama; 3: West Virginia; 4: Louisiana; 5:

North Carolina is on the 17-th place, where 24.7% of the whole population is obese. Our state is one of the 31 states where obesity rates have been on the rise.
North Carolina ranks 8th in the nation for adult diabetes levels, at
8.3 percent, and ranks 10th for rates of hypertension at 28.4 percent.

"F as in Fat: How Obesity Policies are Failing America, 2006, is
the third in a series of annual reports produced by TFAH that examine
state obesity rates and government policies. According to the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly two-thirds of adult
Americans are either overweight or obese. Childhood obesity rates have
more than tripled from 1980 to 2004, from 5 to 17 percent." Read more.
