The consular officer reviewing the case may ask the applicant for the itinerary of his or her stay in the U.S. Details are very important. A general statement of business intent is not as helpful as specific information. Individuals applying for a tourist visa should indicate where they will be staying. If visiting friends or relatives, private correspondence or letters of invitation from them may be helpful. The consular officer reviewing the case may ask how the applicant met the person he or she is visiting. He or she should be prepared to describe his or her relationship to the person and whether the person in the U.S. is an American citizen, a legal permanent resident (a U.S. green card holder), or a nonimmigrant.
